Filatov Update
Scott Howson is going to have a video conference with Nikita Filatov, his family and his agent tomorrow regarding how the Jackets would like him to spend his summer. In a perfect world, Filatov says that he would like to stay in Columbus and work out with the other guys (Brassard, Voracek, etc.) but there are visa issues that need to be taken care of.
I still think that he’ll be here later this summer so he can have a shot at camp. Believe this – if he can get here, you’ll see him at least in Syracuse next year.
I’ll update when I hear what the outcome of tomorrow is.

Agreed. It doesn’t sound like there’s much (no pun intended) “red tape” to go through for him to play in the U.S. this year.
That said, it just seems like he needs to bulk up before making the NHL team. I know I’ve had one colleague say it shouldn’t matter too much since he’s more of a finesse player … but even so and I know Brule is more a bruiser in his gameplay … but I remember him coming up to early and getting his ass handed to him.
I personally think they should get him into camp, see if he gets bigger. Play him in Syracuse for a good portion of the season and see if he’s ready then. I’m tired of us wasting 1st Round picks on forwards that we don’t develop.

I must say this kid has a great attitude about playing. Let’s hope his ability is of the same caliber.

In addition to my comments I think the sooner he can get here the better. Personally I see him working in Syracuse next year.

On any other club i could definitely see Filatov in the AHL – on the Jackets… we are soooo hurting all over that I wouldn’t be surprised to see him for 20+ games in the NHL.

Filatov just got drafted no.1 by Sudbury. However I don’t think he’ll be playing in Junior this year. I feel as though they’ll either have him in the AHL or up here. If he were up here though, I’m not sure he’d get the time he would in the AHL. I guess we’ll see what unfolds at training camp. Could be slotted in as a centre for us?

I also want to know what is going on with the other players… Is anyone else working out on the team? What’s Nash, Zherdev, Modin, etc. doing…?
